The attached links are shared regarding a most recent incident in Florida. This is one of the few that has a happy ending but should serve to drive the point home; many of these incidents are deadly. Please feel free to share this advisory with those who have young children.
Pool Drain Rescue shows dangers remain despite new regs (US)
In various pool education courses found across the Canada, the proper installation and maintenance of drain covers in swimming pools and spas is stressed to be performed in compliance with current legislation.
Please be aware that these entrapment issues can exist in public pools (and backyard pools that are not regulated). Keep a close eye on children and don't let them play around any main drains (in the bottom) or skimmers (near the top in the pool walls at the surface of the water). If the worse case should happen in an un-protected pool, the main circulation pump needs to be shut off immediately to stop producing/increasing the vaccuum in order to try to attempt to break the seal on the body to release the hold on the victim.
