Certified Cemeterian™ Professional (CCP)Managing and properly operating cemeteries has both a high moral and regulated responsibility. Ensuring that these spaces are safe and inviting, requires an understanding of the history, risks, and challenges of these assets. Ensuring that those who are at final rest are cared for, while understanding the needs of different religions who wish to use these spaces demands strong customer service and management skills. The call by ORFA members based on an increasing turnover of these types of infrastructure to municipal operations as set out in the Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act, 2002 to better understand their responsibilities has resulted in the creation of a comprehensive pathway of qualifications for individuals who accept the position of head Cemeterian. Managing these spaces is much more complicated than the quiet and passive environments that they present when visited. Being properly prepared through a proven professional development process will help ensure that the owner of the cemetery remains compliant, the families of those interred are content with the expected condition and respect of the operation and, that those who work in these workspaces meet all regulated health and safety requirements. To qualify for the Certified Cemeterian™ Professional (CCP) designation you must:
All CCP holders are required to recertify every five years. CCP designation holders are required to recertify by collecting and logging a minimum of 50 professional development credits.
