A confidential survey conducted by SPR Associates for the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport

January 6, 2015

Facility Manager: We would greatly appreciate it if you could forward the following e-mail invitation to all of the not-for-profit sports and recreation programs who are affiliated with your organization or use your organization's facilities.

***********************************

Invitation to a Survey of Not-for-Profit Community Sport and Recreation Organizations

Your not-for-profit organization is invited by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport to complete a brief, fully confidential survey which will help the Ministry in its efforts to support sport and recreation in Ontario. While the survey will continue throughout February 2015, your earliest response will be greatly appreciated.

The purpose of the survey is to help the Ministry to better understand the capacity (e.g. funding and human resources) of Ontario not-for-profit community sport and recreation organizations (CSROs). The survey examines various aspects of sports program quality (e.g. certification and standards) as well as the readiness of the sector for the upcoming Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act (ONCA), to be implemented by 2016. The survey will not be used to evaluate individual CSROs and is for the Ministry's internal use only. Results from the survey will allow the Ministry to better aid future development of all sports organizations, including small and rural not-for-profits.

Confidentiality: Your responses will be kept strictly confidential. Only SPR's senior managers will have access to your organization's responses. SPR has a 25+ year track record in studies of programs dealing with such topics as national security programs, family violence, patient medical experiences, and legal aid. SPR's reports will only present summarized data and will not identify individual organizations.

Please Note: If your organization has more than one sport or recreation program, please complete a separate survey for each individual program.

A methodologically rigorous assessment: The survey features a scientifically validated multi-item measure of organizational capacity, developed by Dr. Alison Doherty (Western University) and Dr. Katie Misener (University of Waterloo), with the assistance of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.

Summary Report: All participants will receive with a copy of the summary report, upon request.
