Background
Thank you for your interest in joining the Ontario Recreation Facilities Association (ORFA) professional development team.
The ORFA has a rich history of leading the industry through practitioners who are invested in assisting others in improving their knowledge through proven applications of legislative compliance and adopted standards and best practices.
The following self-evaluation is provided byway of a series of questions to determine if you believe that you have the necessary leadership qualities we are seeking and have been successfully built on. There is no expectation to have all the qualities outlined in the questions, however, there should be a strong foundation of personal commitment and experience to build on.
Q. Do I need to hold an ORFA professional designation to apply.
A. Having and maintaining an ORFA professional designation would be considered a strong asset specific to the facilitator pathway you wish to be part of. Having passed each of the designation courses with a strong final test score would also be a positive contribution to support your application.
Q. How many years of experience would be considered a strength.
A. A minimum of 10-years experience would be the expected level of proven commitment.
Q. What other attributes would be considered positive to my application.
A. Applicants should have a strong commitment to implementing in the workplace what was learned in their professional development pathway. For example, does your operation have a strong health and safety culture, robust policy and procedures and does the candidate lead by example.
Q. Do I need to be a proven public speaker.
A. Candidates should be able to demonstrate an ability to speak confidentially in a public setting.
Q. Is there an instructor mentoring program.
A. Yes. The ORFA has a set process for all instructors to follow to gain the strengths required to carry on the presentation traditions of the Association.
Q. Does ORFA compensate instructors.
A. Yes. The ORFA has a fair and equitable compensation package for those who qualify as a practitioner facilitator. The ORFA does not always compensate corporate members for instructional participation as we believe the business return on investment for these commitments is reasonable.
Q. If I feel I have the necessary education, practical experience and commitment to join the ORFA instructional team – what is the next steps.
A. Candidates should submit a formal letter of interest and resume.
Q. Who should I contact if I have any other questions.
A. Contact the ORFA Director, Training, Research and Development at inquiry@orfa.com
Thank you!
