It is with a heavy heart and mixed emotions that I inform you that today (September 18th) is officially my last day with the Town of Halton Hills. I now start the next chapter of my life after 26 years (25 years and 11 months to be exact) with the Town of Halton Hills and 34 years in municipal government. I started here in Halton Hills in October 1994 and I am immensely proud of our accomplishments and have many people to “Thank”.
Many of you played a huge part in my career helping me in being so successful. Whether it was providing me with information, advice, educational materials or simply support, I could not have achieved my success without you.
To all the many wonderful contractors who I have worked with for so many years keeping our buildings and equipment well maintained, safe and operational.
To the staff and board members of the Ontario Recreation Facilities Association for allowing me the honour of being a board member and to sit on the many committers over the years. Also for the advice, educational programs, information and support you provided to me allowing myself to have such a great career.
To the board members at the Association of Municipal Clerks and Treasures of Ontario and to PRO for providing the information and courses required for my job.
To our facility user groups and contacts I have worked with over the last 26 years, it has been an honour and pleasure working with you. I would not have been successful without your help and support. It is people like you that sports in our Town and our sports teams are so successful. Keep up your great work!
I have been fortunate to have been involved with the design, construction, opening and operations of 5 major recreation facilities which is truly amazing and one that many in my field do not experience or get an opportunity to do unless they often change municipalities where they work. Imagine this opportunity in a small Town called Halton Hills.
What a ride it has been and what an experience! I would not change this experience for any other job. I was truly blessed.
I have also worked with some of the finest engineers, architects, and construction companies over the years. There were some bad ones too but let’s not get into that. I also have become close to some of our local contractors who assist us in keeping our facilities well maintained and functional. To you, I also say thank-you!
I would have liked to of said “Goodbye” to many of you in person but unfortunately with todays unprecedented times (COVID-19) we cannot. This is the best we can do under these circumstances.
Again, I want to thank everyone for being part of my amazing career and for being there when I needed you. I could not have done this without you.
Please Stay Safer and best wishes to all of you.
So long!
John Archibald, CRFP., CIT., PM., CPO., AMCT.
