TORONTO, September 14, 2020 Please be aware of a recent ice resurfacer compressed natural gas (CNG) tank explosion in Ontario, that had no injuries, but caused property damage and is currently under investigation. The ORFA takes this opportunity to remind all ice resurfacer owners of the importance of checking pressurized fuel tanks for expiry. Some tanks require inspection and recertification within 5 to 20 years and depending on type and design. Further, some CNG tanks are not able to be recertified due to having a lack of visible coding. Information is displayed on each tank and can quickly be reviewed by an internal, competent ice resurfacer operator. As the information on CNG bottles are not always clearly readable or the date is written into an inspection code on the bottle, you are encouraged to check the owners manual for the expiry date. Expiry data is considered an asset management responsibility and should be recorded accordingly. |
